First, the recipients of your btexty messages need not be btexty users. You can send a text message to any mobile phone number in the world using btexty.

Your recipients will receive a traditional text message with your message content and your name. In most countries (with the notable exception of the United States, where it is forbidden by local regulations), your recipients will receive your message as if it was sent directly from your mobile.

If you are a btexty user and someone who is also a btexty user sends you a message via btexty, you will receive a traditional text message (SMS) as a notification. You don't use your btexty balance when you receive btexty messages.

Depending on your plan with your mobile operator, you will be charged or not for the notification text message. To make it simple, if you live in the US most probably you will be charged as if you were receiving any normal text message. If you live anywhere else in the world, most likely your mobile operator does not charge you for incoming text messages.

Now the good news, especially for our US users: if you signup on btexty you can decide how often you want to be notified (if you want to reduce the amount of incoming messages) or you can choose to be notified by mobile email instead (for example on iphone or blackberry)

Your friends will receive a traditional text message and they will be charged or not, as if such text message was sent from their own country.

So basically, if your recipient has a US mobile phone number, most probably they will be charged for an incoming text message as if they received a text message from any US-based cell phone.

If your recipient is anywhere else in the world, most likely they will not be charged for incoming messages.

Sending text messages is expensive for us too. Mobile operators charge outrageous amounts to both consumers like you and service providers like us to send few bytes.

There are several websites that try to offer free text messaging. Unfortunately in order to cover their expenses, they have to use lots of advertisement banners on their mobile pages (hence increasing your data traffic bill) or even worse, SMS advertisement, ringtones, wallpapers, expensive shortcodes or other hidden charges.

We prefer to be transparent and charge the smallest amount possible, as low as 1 cent per message, to cover our expenses and provide you with a fast, clean, ad-free, spam-free service.
